Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

reflexology invernessReflexology is the gentle massage and manipulation of the feet or hands to provide deep relaxation, stress relief and the potential of reduction in symptoms of many common illnesses.

Reflexology was developed in China thousands of years ago since when its development and use has spread around the world.

Reflexology is the gentle manipulation and massage of the feet or hands in order to improve health and wellbeing. It provides stress relief and is a deeply relaxing experience the effects of which last long after the treatment itself.

Every part of the body both inside and out is represented in the feet so massaging the feet in the therapeutic manner developed in reflexology has the potential to reach and benefit every part of the body in a way most other therapies are unable to do.

The feet and hands contain reflex zones which are linked by energy pathways known as meridians, to every part of the body. Chinese medicine teaches that reflexology works on these pathways to clear blockages or imbalances in the energy pathways that can ultimately lead to ill health. Research is still ongoing and has shown many potential health benefits for people who receive regular reflexology.

In the course of a reflexology treatment the feet are massaged therapeutically and gently, during which areas of congestion or blockage can be detected and cleared, allowing the body to reach homeostasis or the return to a healthy state of balance and relaxation. You will be told about any blockages you have and can also be given advice on how to improve your health and wellbeing should you wish.

Reflexology works on every system of the body and has the potential to help most ailments. You can have reflexology for relaxation even if you do not have any health problems as it is a deeply relaxing experience which can act to protect your future health.
